Chips to the future: Integrated Photonic Chips
Integrated photonic chips are able to achieve higher bandwidth and speed than microelectronic chips. Therefore, this technology has the potential to revolutionize communications, computation, sensing, and quantum information science.
Our team investigates the physics and applications of photonic integrated circuits, especially next-generation photonic integration technologies based on multi-material systems through advanced integration techniques. The multi-material system enables a wide range of high-performance devices, including highly coherent lasers and microcombs, ultra-low loss waveguides, highly-nonlinear devices, and high-speed modulators. The applications of photonic integrated circuits we design, fabricate, and demonstrate are numerous: Internet communication, AI, LiDAR, biomedicine, and quantum computing.
